MVP George heads Sharks' all-district football picks

Senior quarterback Jamarian George earned most valuable player honors and Brad Butler was named the coach of the year to head the state finalist Shadow Creek Sharks’ 16 selections to the All-District 10-5A Division-1 Football team.

George was joined on the first team offense by linemen Damien Jackson and Cam`Ron Johnson, running back Marquez Huland and receiver Kealon Jackson.

George, who delivered a state record 99-yard run against Highland Park in the state finals on Dec. 22 in Arlington, threw for 2,961 yards and 33 touchdowns entering the contest, while adding 457 yards and 11 TD’s on the ground. Huland provided 1,374 rushing yards and 17 TD’s and Jackson grabbed 55 receptions for 956 yards and seven TD’s.

Ends Alec Bryant and Ronald Triplett both gained first team defensive nods, along with inside linebacker Jeremiah Harris, safety Xavion Alford and cornerback Jevin Murray.

Bryant compiled 49 tackles, eight sacks and 12 hurries during the 2018 season, while Harris added 67 tackles and 12 sacks and Alford chipped in 53 tackles and six interceptions.

The 15-1 Sharks became just the third gridiron program in Texas high school history to advance to the title game in their first year of existence. Shadow Creek won the District 10-5A crown with a perfect 10-0 mark and then posted playoff victories over New Caney Porter (37-30), Cedar Park (21-14), Georgetown (36-7), Richmond Foster (25-21) and San Antonio Wagner (41-24).

The Sharks then faced Highland Park in the title game on Dec. 22 at A&T Stadium in Arlington, where a late rally fell short in a 27-17 defeat.

Second team offensive nods for SC went to lineman Josh Martin, receiver Jared Jackson and place kicker Greg Ezechukwu, while the Shark second team defensive picks included inside linebacker Warren Shankle, safety Jaylen Lane and cornerback Kaymen St. Junious.

Other first team selections included linemen Chris Cassidy (Angleton), Smart Chibuzo (Hightower), Reuben Fatheree (Foster), Michael Gibson (Friendswood), Marque Johnson (Hightower), Colby Olivier (Angleton) and Ronald Williams (Texas City); running backs Jordan Jones (Angleton) and JoVel McDaniel (Texas City); fullbacks Kendal Archie (Angleton) and T.J. Fountain (Texas City); tight end Joshual Ellis (Angleton); quarterbacks Martavian Jackson (Galveston Ball) and Ryan Stubblefield (Foster); receivers Shadeed Ahmed (Foster), Austin Alvarez (Friendswood) and Jaden Bennett (Galveston Ball); and place kicker Eduardo Rosales (Angleton).

The first team defense also featured ends Mike Hermes (Friendswood) and Jesse Herron (Angleton); tackles Robert Harbor (Foster), Isaac Hughes (Angleton) and Jahari Muharib (Hightower); outside linebackers Christian Barillas (Foster), Courtney Brown (Angleton), Dane Roenne (Friendswood) and Charles Walton III (Angleton); inside linebackers Cory Addison (Angleton) and Quinton Sharkey (Hightower); cornerbacks Isaiah Essissima (Hightower), Jaden Smith (Foster) and Cameron Stone (Angleton); safeties Kobie Campbell (Hightower), Thaddeus Chaney (Angleton) and Trey Mappe (Friendswood); and punter Chantz Caesar (Hightower).

Galveston Ball’s Clarence Dalton collected offensive MVP honors, while Cody Jackson, of Foster, received newcomer of the year accolades and Falcon Jaden Smith added the top kick returner award to his first team defensive berth in the secondary. Foster tackle Chidoze Nwankwo was named the district’s defensive MVP and the utility award went to Angleton’s Jason Williams.

Also making the second team offensive cuts were linemen Luis Garcia (Rosenberg Terry), Rodrick Hutchinson (Friendswood), Austin Lemons (Angleton), Trevion Robinson (Hightower), Erick Rodriguez (Galveston Ball), Hunter Shultz (Foster) and Kolby Sumlin (Rosenberg Terry); running backs LeAndrew Davis (Rosenberg Terry), Luke Revere (Friendswood) and Mario Simmons (Foster); fullback Koleman Hardin (Foster); quarterbacks Seth Cosme (Angleton) and Phillip McDaniel (Texas City); tight end Maurice Walker (Texas City); receivers Dayton Booker (Texas City), Chantz Caesar (Hightower), Nigel Green (Galveston Ball) and Christian Lee (Friendswood); and kicker Alex Paz (Texas City).

Rounding out the second defense were ends Jewan Cade (Hightower), Arthur Lott (Hightower) and Landris White (Angleton); tackles John Brown (Galveston Ball), Donovan Davis (Hightower), Jontel Stevenson (Galveston Ball) and Davis Tinger (Friendswood); outside linebackers Michael Franks (Galveston Ball), Christian Hood (Hightower) and Jerry Reyes (Rosenberg Terry); inside linebackers Mykal Brow (Texas City), Ricky Rich (Foster) and Jose Rodriguez (Angleton); cornerbacks Evan Bennett (Galveston Ball), Trayvon Smith (Angleton) and Corday Williams (Texas City); safeties Fabien Jobe (Galveston Ball), Jalen Moore (Rosenberg Terry) and Dedrick Sasser (Hightower); and punter Bryson Harrell (Foster).
